Where were all the prophets?
Categories: Spirituality

Well, Lakeland has begun to spin out of control with the recent news of Todd Bentley’s marital issues.

Now the commentators have begun the post-mortem.  Dutch Sheets has written an interesting article (long, but worth the read) about Lakeland from the perspective of someone in the prophetic/charismatic movement.  I don’t know how long this will stay as the front page of his site, so you may have to search for it later.

Then, RT Kendall has added his .02 into the mix with this recent article.

I suspect that we will begin to see a general ‘piling on’ of people who come out of their own prophetic closets to denounce what they knew all along was not of God.

Does that bother you like it bothers me?  If you have a problem with something like the things that went on at Lakeland, why not announce it while the problems are happening?  Why not step out on a limb and dare to be brandished a stodgy old fuddy-duddy who has clearly missed God?

If all the leaders wait for the sheep to be pillaged before piping up to say, “Well, we knew it was a wolf all along,” then what benefit do the sheep get out of it?  Nada.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Discernment doesn’t have to wait for all the damage to be done before rebuking, reproving or exhorting.

Just my thoughts on absentee leadership.  What are yours?

It’s the rule, not the exception, in the church as in much of the world. Human nature remains (in many ways sadly) constant. Being a REAL prophet is fairly uncomfortable and inconvenient.
