A news report located at this link details how police officials in Tenaha have taken the state’s asset seizure law to heart: They are using it to target mainly non-white travelers in order to force them to hand over money, cellphones, cars, and anything else valuable the police want.
Many of the times, the police have never even charged the travelers with crimes but have simply threatened them with charges if they did not sign over the assets.
Where IS the respect for the rule of law and justice in this country?
This town should be wiped off the map politically. A class action suit has been filed, and it is my earnest hope that they drain the town of every single dollar and asset it owns for the next 20 years. Plus, the police and officials involved in this scam should be sentenced to prison for the whole 20 years — or more.
I really wonder how they would have handled this in the old west?
