In the “where did this guy come from” category, the new Chairman for the Republican National Committee has made some recent statements which are worth noting. Michael Steele, in a recent interview with radio host Michael Gallagher, stated that he has no intention of affirming support for civil unions or homosexual marriage.
Whoa! I thought the homosexuals were everywhere, in your face and controlled the entire known world — at least according to their lobbyists. And this man has the (insert word describing intestinal fortitude in your culture) to not just quietly defer the suggestions but to out and out refute them?
Since when did it become politically correct for conservatives to start coming out of the closet (or cave) and actually espouse conservative values again?
You have to love these quotes:
On the question of the Republican party expressing support for homosexual marriage and civil unions: “What would we do that for? What are you, crazy? No.”
On the issue of big government: “We believe in the right to life, the right to bear arms, to live our lives as God has ordained it, fiscal responsibility. I don’t need the government to come in and redefine it for me.”

Where did they get this guy? How did he make it past the interest groups and moderates who have herded the Republican Party down the road to a certain death sentence?
Michael Steele, you are either crazy or completely sane. I tend to think you are the latter. Keep it up, and Republicans might actually have a candidate that people not only can stomach but might actually be able to genuinely support in 2012.
What do you think?
Ah, was that a breath of fresh air I just felt blowing in?
