Years ago states in the US began establishing “Do Not Call” registries. Eventually, the federal government awoke to the idea and established a federal list.
Since that time, tens of millions of Americans have been able to eat supper in relative peace and quiet without having someone ask them to buy life insurance, take a cruise or buy a time share in Orlando.
But, there are still transgressors. And they still get caught. Comcast was fined $900,000 and DirecTV $2,300,000 for their continued calls to people on the Do Not Call registry.
The Plaid Rhino recommends that you keep a pad and pencil near your telephone. If you are on a Do Not Call list and you receive an unwanted call from a company, politely ask the name of the person you are speaking to, the city they are calling from, and get as much detailed information as you can get. Write it down. Then report it.
It matters. Just ask Comcast and DirecTV who are smarting from the fines they received.
